Welcome to The CAMS Framework™ with Difficult Suicidal Patients Online Video Course.

Treating suicidal patients can feel overwhelming. Treating suicidal patients that are particularly challenging due to personality-related disorders, substance abuse, cognitive or intellectual disabilities, or even adolescents who are reluctant to be in treatment – can feel like an impossible task. Many mental health professionals turn immediately to hospitalization to treat suicide risk, although research shows that hospitalization is usually not in the patient’s best interest, and can actually be harmful. This training video focusses on strategies to reduce suicide risk with these challenging patients, using hospitalization as only the last resort.

The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) has been scientifically proven with over 30 years of multiple randomized controlled trials (the most rigorous method of scientific validation) to significantly reduce suicidal thoughts.

The CAMS Framework is flexible. It can be adapted to various cultures, medical and clinical settings and any preferred therapeutic technique.

Mental health professionals have reported that CAMS has given them a way to confidently treat suicidal patients effectively and often in only 6-8 sessions. And, more importantly, patients have reported they like using CAMS.

The CAMS Framework is recommended by such groups as the Zero Suicide Initiative, The Joint Commission, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

My video is not running smoothly.

If you find that the video is pausing and not running smoothly, we suggest that you pause the video and allow it to stream for five minutes and then start it again. We recommend access the course with the latest version of the Chrome Browser, which can be installed here.

These tips may also be helpful in determining what is causing the video to pause or not run smoothly:

Operating System Issues: Older versions of Microsoft Windows may not support HTML5 players to stream our video. Your IT department can provide you with more information about new versions of operating systems to accommodate streaming video. You may also be able to view the video on a tablet or iPad.

Internet speed: The minimum viable connection speed to stream video reliably without pauses in the streaming is about 768 kilobits per second (equal to .768 megabits per second). We recommend a connection speed of at least 5 megabits per second.

Buffering Issues: If you are viewing the video and have low WiFi speed and range or using a WiFi network with multiple users, you may find that the video pauses while streaming. A solution to this is to pause the video after it begins and permit the video to buffer (download data). You may want to try this solution if the video is taking a long time to buffer:

• If the video fails to load or is taking a while to buffer, one simple step is to clear the browser cache, restart the browser, and try again:
